This
summer Susan and Brad will Circumnavigate the Arctic Ocean
aboard the Russian Icebreaker Kapitan Dranitsyn. This
is a historical, first-time-ever expedition. The 10 week
exploration begins and ends north of Norway at the Svalbard
Archipelago, 600 miles from the North Pole.
Through
purchase of a subscription, your students gain access
to a password-protected site on this webpage. They will
find three communications per week which include:

Date,
latitude, longitude, and current weather statistics.

of the area including natural and social history.

Current
events, wildlife and ice reports.

Full
color post cards (photographs) by Brad Stahl to download
for classroom use.

A nautical chart for students to track the progress
of this Full Circumnavigation of the Arctic Ocean.

enhance Arctic study.

Highlights
for your Students:
- Ice
conditions permitting, we follow the 80 degree latitude
line, sailing west to Greenland.
-
We
will visit Inuit villages and wilderness areas of east
and west Greenland.
-
Cruising
as far north as possible between Greenland and Canada
we will attempt a landing at Ellesmere Island in the
Canadian Archipelago.
-
Breaking
ice through the famous Northwest Passage, we will visit
the last known encampments of the Lost Franklin Expedition
- one of the most mysterious disappearances of explorers
on earth!

Using the famed Northwest Passage we will cross the
Canadian Arctic, visiting native communities, and learning
about seal hunts and tundra living.

Across
the north slope of Alaska we enter the Bering Sea, crossing
the international dateline and entering into Russian
waters.

Exploring
Russian areas such as the New Siberian Islands and Nova
Zemlya, we complete our circumnavigation, returning
to Svalbard.
